Unlocking the Value of Knowledge: ERA Symposium 2023
This full-day on site event is dedicated to "Unlocking the Value of Knowledge“, focussing on Open Science and Knowledge Valorisation, two highly important, topical areas in research and innovation policy. The event marks the launch of a new series of annual symposia in Austria addressing the new European Research Area (ERA).
The ERA symposium welcomes a broad range of actors from the Austrian science, research and innovation community, high-level European Commission representatives as well as interested guests from other ERA countries. The annual ERA symposia are part of the implementation of the Austrian National Action Plan for the ERA (2022-2025) which is based on the EU’s ERA Policy Agenda (2022-2024).
This year‘s ERA Symposium is organized in conjunction with the Tour des Capitales of the European Commission to promote the guiding principles of knowledge valorisation, and with the Open Science Austria (OSA) Community Day. OSA is the Open Science Platform of the Universities Austria association (uniko). The event will thus provide an ideal opportunity for stakeholders from academia, business and civil society to engage with two core initiatives of the Austrian ERA Action Plan: Open Science and Knowledge Valorisation. It will offer a forum for feedback on the first results of these initiatives and encourages suggestions for the next steps in their implementation.

Representatives of the further ERA initiatives constituting the Austrian ERA Action plan are invited to present their activities in the poster area during the lunch break, further stimulating a broad exchange. Am 9. November 2023 findet im Hotel Savoyen Vienna das erste österreichische ERA-Symposium statt.
Die ganztägige Präsenzveranstaltung steht unter dem Motto “Unlocking the value of knowledge” und vereint zwei wichtige aktuelle Bereiche der Forschungs- und Innovationspolitik: Offene Wissenschaft und Valorisierung von Wissen. Die Veranstaltung markiert den Auftakt einer neuen Reihe jährlicher Symposien in Österreich, die sich mit dem neuen Europäischen Forschungsraum (ERA) befassen.
Das ERA-Symposium lädt ein breites Spektrum an Akteuren der österreichischen Wissenschafts-, Forschungs- und Innovationscommunity, hochrangige Vertreter:innen der Europäischen Kommission sowie interessierte Gäste aus weiteren ERA-Ländern ein. Die jährlichen ERA-Symposien sind Teil der Umsetzung des österreichischen Nationalen Aktionsplans für ERA (2022-2025), der auf der ERA Policy Agenda der EU (2022-2024) basiert.

Das ERA-Symposium bildet somit auch ein Forum für Feedback zu den ersten Ergebnissen dieser Initiativen, und für Vorschläge zu den nächsten Schritten in ihrer Umsetzung.
