In industrial environments, such as warehouses or production halls, radio transmission is often hampered by the lack of a direct line of sight between transmitter and receiver. Conversely, reflections create multiple transmission paths whose signals overlap at the receiver. By using multiple antenna systems at the transmitter and receiver, multipath propagation (spatial diversity) can be utilised and the error rate drastically reduced through suitable signal processing using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. In this way, the reliability required for industrial applications, for example for the cooperation of robots, is achieved with a short latency time at the same time.
