The aim of the project is to evaluate 5G for communication in robot swarms. For this purpose, a swarm of drones and ground robots will be set up that communicate via a 5G network and perform certain tasks together. The robots are not controlled centrally, but organise themselves independently on the basis of information exchanged via the 5G network (e.g. position, sensor, multimedia data) and with the help of distributed swarm algorithms. Edge computing is needed to process the sensor data, as individual swarm members do not have enough computing capacity. Scenarios in which such autonomous swarms can be used are: Search-and-rescue operations, monitoring tasks for the protection of critical infrastructures, logistics scenarios, etc.
