R&D Infrastructure Funding

The R&D Infrastructure Funding Programme supports projects designed to acquire and develop high quality R&D infrastructure for use in both basic and applied research.

Throughout European research, R&D infrastructures play an essential role in generating new knowledge and technologies in all scientific disciplines. They provide an important basis for state-of-the-art research, and can act as hubs for cooperative R&D.

The FFG launched its R&D infrastructure funding initiative in 2016. It is intended to strengthen Austria as a location for excellence in research, both for businesses as well as universities and research establishments, and consequently to improve the international standing of Austrian research.

The funding is targeted at:

  • supporting universities and research establishments in profile building and development planning, and establishing new and promising fields of research,
  • supporting companies in establishing and extending industrial R&D infrastructures, and
  • creating incentives for the coordinated joint acquisition and use of R&D infrastructure by research establishments and businesses.
