Electric mobility: Ministry of Climate Action funds a further 118 zero-emission buses in six provinces
Successful EBIN funding programme to be continued in 2023 – second call for zero-emission buses completed; third call starts in mid-February
The zero-emission buses and infrastructure (EBIN) funding programme will continue into the coming year. In so doing, the Ministry of Climate Action is helping companies to convert their fleets to zero-emission buses and set up the necessary charging and refuelling infrastructure.
The aim is to increase the proportion of zero-emission buses in Austria and provide a zero-emission transport service for people wishing to switch from private to public transport.
The second EBIN call was open from 29 June to 28 September 2022. A total of six submitted projects from six provinces (Vorarlberg, Lower Austria, Tyrol, Salzburg, Styria, Vienna) were evaluated positively (see table below). Consequently, funding of over 38 million euros will be available for 118 zero-emission buses. All proposals submitted to the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) were evaluated by an independent jury of experts. The third call will start on 15 February 2023 and will be open until 26 April 2023.
Climate Action Minister Leonore Gewessler: “People in Austria want to travel in a climate-friendly manner, and this funding scheme helps them to do just that. We are investing locally in zero-emission mobility, creating an attractive offering for anyone wanting to take a zero-emission bus instead of their own car.”
Klaus Pseiner, Managing Director of FFG: “The switch to zero-emission fleets is an essential step towards the environmentally friendly mobility of tomorrow. In our role as an implementation partner, the FFG ensures that the funds are used quickly and effectively. We are pleased that the first two calls have already helped to encourage the use of public transport.”
